Diet Coke and a Pretzel

I'm always excited to go to Sam's Club in Little Rock. I am still a Costco lover, believe me, but Sam's Club has become lovable too, which is all important because there are no Costcos in Arkansas and I go to Sam's every week, sometimes twice a week, to get the necessary items for the store. Now, I'm not as excited about actually buying the usual laundry list of items as much as I am about buying me a large Diet Coke and dry warm pretzel with mustard afterwards. YUMMY! It's my breakfast on those mornings. It's not very nutritious, I know, but its not that bad either without all the butter and salt. I tell you that when I drive home and cross the beautiful Arkansas river, drinking my DC and eating that pretzel, my day is made.

Well, two Mondays past I start off on the highway toward Little Rock, and mid way to Sam's I notice my car is operating differently and I think, "it might be a flat tire," but I hesitate to pull over thinking, "crazy, paranoid Robin, thinking up problems where none exist." But as I pull over to the very small shoulder, I discover that I, in fact, have a flat rear tire. I call Cody who comes to my rescue. Despite my fear of him being clipped by a Semi, he was able to change the tire without harm.

The whole time Cody sweated to change my tire, I assumed the responsibility of glaring at each driver coming our way as if to say, "pull over to the far lane buddy, I've got precious cargo changing my tire here on the shoulder." Most people obeyed my glaring demand, but some, including some large truckers, seemed to hug the shoulder even more. I hate those people.

As Cody switched keys with me so that I could take his car for the rest of my Sam's Club trip, I pulled away screaming, "Cody - YOU ARE MY HERO!!!". He really is.

I shopped. I got my beloved Pretzel and Diet Coke. And even had a nice, stranger, man who helped me load my groceries in the car. As I went to open my car door, however, I notice it is locked and realize that I left the keys in the back bed. I go to relift the gate and discover that it has spontaneously locked itself up. I call Cody and tell him the pathetic news. I felt like "such a girl".

I tell him to call a locksmith. He said, "my car sometimes does that." I say that that information would have been helpful to know. We laugh a frustrated laugh - you know, the "really?" type of laugh. We hang up. Then the light bulb flashes and I thank my lucky stars that Cody's car is falling apart. You see, his back two windows were tapped up because they were off their track and I figured I could break the tape and enter the car through the back window. One second after breaking into the car, the alarm sounds off and a man, different than the first, starts approaching the car. Now, you all know I love attention, but not the "is this woman stealing that car?" kind of attention. I quickly find the keys and turn off the alarm. The man ended up just asking me if I had an electrical problem with the car and if I needed his help.

On the way back home I was grateful for the following:

-My handy husband, who without complaint, came to my rescue.
-Two helpful gentlemen (AR really has the nicest people), who used the manners they learned here in the South, and the Christian way widely preached here, to help a stranger lady.
-The yummy pretzel and refreshing Diet Coke I partook of as I crossed the river on my way back to Conway...and despite the craziness of my morning, my Sam's snack was still day making.

P.S. Cody's car has been fixed. Not the wearing off paint part, but the two back windows and the windshield that was cracked. So, no more breaking into the car via cutting tape. I better keep my keys close :) But who knew that broken windows could have been a good thing.

Birthday Boy!!

I'm playing catch-up and today I'm blogging about September 2nd - Cody's Birthday.

I wrote on the birthday boy's card that he deserves everything he wants for his birthday. After all, he's been a very good boy this year. He's worked so hard and he's been a stellar husband. He deserves everything he wants: a house - a nice and big one. He deserves a car that's paint isn't wearing off and car windows with no cracks. He deserves a super skinny, hot, rich, and never naggy wife. He deserves a lavish vacation to wherever his heart desires. He deserves the moon and the stars and his every wish.

And despite what he deserves, he got a tie, a book, candy, Cheetos, scissors, and a coupon book for messages etc. Scissors? Cheetos? What went wrong? Well, we are saving money for a house in CA (which, in reality, is robbery of sorts...bye-bye bank savings) and since Cody is better at long term thinking than I am, I knew he'd appreciate frugality more than lavish surprises for his birthday. It just made me, the giver, look real pathetic. Pathetic AND Cheap!

Luckily, I decorated, and tried to make breakfast celebratory. He requested German pancakes and I got him his favorite "white trash orange juice," SunnyD. See how fake excited he is?

It was early.

He had the day off of work, but he came in to set up and kept popping in all day long. We went out to dinner at Mike's Place, a nicer restaurant in downtown Conway.

And walked around downtown after dinner.

We watched "Date Night". He got a massage - for an hour. AN HOUR PEOPLE! THAT IS HUGE! It is a stinkin' long time and I caught myself looking at the clock every 2 minutes. Time was crawling...my hands were tired...but it was cody's birthday and as I've stated, he deserves it.
And despite the hour massage, dinner, and movie, it was still a sorry birthday for a good boy, but it's the birthday he wanted...and he does deserve what he wants.

31 looks good on him, don't you think?

And here I am at my birthday dinner in June - at 30. Wow!!! I'm getting some life under my belt now (while getting some sun in my eyes).

Playing Catch-up: Montana - Big Sky Country!!!

As many of you know...Cody was the best husband and let me go vacation with my family in Whitefish, MT while he stayed back and worked the yogurt store for 10 days of July! He is so selfless!

But as many of you don't know, Montana is the best vacation and possibly the only place I could go and enjoy myself without Cody. Montana is absolutely breathtaking, relaxing, and picturesque. And you can't get bored because on good weather days you have the lake and all the water sports that accompany, and on bad weather days you have Glacier National Park to hike around in and explore. Plus I could look at these views for hours and be lost in thought. I've been lucky to go up every summer since I was 13. It's one of my homes.

Here's all the proof for "best vacation" you need:

I got to play on the lake, make s'mores, hike, go out to eat, see Eclipse, shop, win at rummikub, socialize with the family, and read a book...all while Cody worked 16 hour days. The best vacation could only have been made better if my Cody was able to come - but I won't lie...I quite enjoyed myself and my time away from the shop.

I love Big Sky Country...or as they say in Montana, God's Country.

California trip continued...

Cody and I went to California to celebrate my brother's wedding, which I've blogged about, but I wanted to post the rest of our pictures. We had a great time, but really only took some beach photos, some photos of the rehearsal dinner, and some wedding pictures.

We love Joshua, Luke, and Caroline (who loves eating sand and seaweed. Gross), but I am quite obsessed. After saying goodbye to them at the wedding - I cried. They are just too cute and special to me. I love them like a mother. Seriously.

The rehearsal dinner, or more appropriately the pre-nuptial dinner, was at the Pelican Hill Country Club which overlooks the ocean and is so beautiful. My mother and I picked out the flowers and my mother arranged the centerpieces. I encouraged her to have a succulent/artichoke theme to the decor and I think it ended up great. The favors were Sprinkle cupcakes and my mom had tags made with said, "Marci and Redge - Sprinkled with Love." Cleaver Lady.

Did I say that the setting was beautiful?! Just look!

And here is a quick one of the family at the wedding.
