Cody had a training in LA last month, and Alivia and I decided to drive up with him and make a day out of it. The training was only an hour and a half, so we thought we might as well maximize the gas and miles by going and seeing some of LA that we haven't before explored.
Alivia and I went to the new outdoor shopping center, The Americana at Brand, in Glendale while Cody was in his training. It is such an upscale place. I felt like money just walking around, since the grounds are so manicured and classy. I wish we had more time there before we had to go pick up Cody.
But alas, we left, picked up Cody and headed to La Canada/Flintridge. My dad grew up there and we drove by the house he was raised in. Funny thing is the owner was by the house, in her robe, wondering why these strangers were taking pictures of her home. I could totally live there, in the hills, in that neighborhood: huge properties, lovely homes.
Next we had an early dinner and raced over to Griffith Observatory before the sun set.
Look at this beautiful place!
Not only are the views amazing, but the actual observatory is beautiful.
For those of you not from LA, Griffith Park is a huge hilly nature preserve in LA. If it weren't for all the untamed hills and trails, I would compare it to central park in NYC. I didn't know it, but a man named Griffith Griffith (no joke!), donated the land to the city of LA because "every great city needs a great park." The funny fact is that the city almost didn't accept his donation because they thought nobody would travel a mile outside of the city to use the space.
Now, the park is refreshment to a cement city and completely surrounded by developed land. Griffith Park has trails, trees, Griffith Observatory, the LA Zoo, the Hollywood sign, and The Greek Theater (where I've seen Fiona Apple and The Fray perform).
The inside of the observatory is quite lovely and has exhibits on astronomy.
Dusk and Dark:
Too bad I'm still learning how to use this camera of mine. But here is my attempt at getting a night shot of us with the city lights in the background.
It was a great day.
