Easter is on Sunday. It is such a happy, sunny, spring worthy holiday.
It is...
Bunnies and Chicks,
Chocolate and Pastels,
Baskets and Grass and Bonnets.
But, it is so much more than that. It is so much more important than egg hunts, and tulips, smiling with an Easter bunny, and wearing an adorable Sunday dress. It is about that sunny morning close to 2,000 years ago when Mary found the tomb of Christ empty. It is about light, resurrection, and hope. It is about conquering death and starting anew. It is about the triumphant resurrection of Christ.
That is Sunday.
But, today is Good Friday. Today is the day when Christ was crucified. The day He hung with His hands and feet nailed to a cross at Calvary. Today is the day He died. He died today, for me. And for you. And for all mankind.
This day I feel compelled to stop and feel of His goodness, His love, and His cleansing sacrifice. Today I will remember to carry gratitude and love in my heart. Today I will especially strive to be good (obedient, loving, Christ-like), because it is Good Friday and because He is good.
Last night my family, as tradition dictates, celebrated the Last Supper with a semi-traditional passover meal. My mother cooked lamb. We had bitter herbs, unleavened bread (pita bread), barley, and other dishes. My mother washed her grandchildrens' feet and we reviewed scriptures surrounding these religious events. Although there were more kiddos than in years past, and attention to detail wasn't observed as it should have been, it was so nice to have a family night commemorating this amazing time of year. A time where we are afforded an opportunity to focus on things of importance: spiritual things, eternal things, heavenly things.
I love these holidays and can't wait for church on Sunday!
Last night, Alivia getting her feet washed.
Some of our food.
My mother makes us take vinager in these little cups to represent the 'bitter cup'.
